Canary Island Date Palm
Scientific Name: Phoenix canariensis
AKA: Pineapple Palm, Canary Palm
Appearance: Greyish brown trunk which is covered with old leaf bases with a unique upside down triangle shape. Canary Date Palms have around 50 large feather-shaped leaves which grow 18 feet long. The base of these leaves have long, sharp spikes.
Growing: Average growing rate, but at its mature size it can be near 60 feet tall and 20 feet wide. Canary Date Palms are cold tolerant, average maintenance, full sun, and require moderate watering. The old fronds on this palm do need to be cut from the tree to keep its striking appearance.
